Zombies Go to College
On March 9, 2022, Michael J. Murnin, Director, and Clare Higgins, Author/Lyricist of the team that created and produced "Night of the Living Dead: The Musical," were guest speakers at Salem State University, MA. Composer Steve Winstead was unable to attend.
The invitation to speak came from Visiting Lecturer Claire McCarthy, a writer and editor who chose George Romero’s 1968 film "Night of the Living Dead" as the subject of a film analysis class. Michael and Clare participated by Zoom.
In two class sessions, we covered a lot of ground, discussing our creative and adaptation vision and processes, the many steps from conception to production, the film's significance as a statement about racism, both in 1968 and today, the importance of George Romero’s work, and how the arts can open discussions about controversial issues.
All in all, it was a fruitful, stimulating session, and we are honored to have been invited to participate.

Earlier this year, the Phantasmagoria team was in negotiation with Rob Newton, Program Manager of Salem Horror Fest and Owner/Creative Director at The Cape Ann Community Cinema regarding plans about an additional workshop production, but COVID 19 has caused a delay in our continued development of the production. We will publish updates as the situation changes.
